I got Lucy through a weird twist of events. Originally, she had been sold as a family pet. However, things didn't work out (thank goodness, because they were going to name her "Miss Lucy Boo-Woof" - can you imagine?!). Due to my living circumstances, she had to stay for some time with her breeder while I visited.

She was one of the toughest stock dogs I have ever seen. She would take anything on and not back down. During one stock trial, the sheep were giving everyone grief - even the Advanced Border Collies! Lucy and I managed to get the sheep through the course - by backing them up step-by-step, backwards through the course, daylighting the first obstacle, and then backing them back through the correct way. It was nerve racking for both of us. The sheep were stamping and butting and Lucy was snapping her teeth and whining to "get them!" We got the Highest Score on sheep that day, as well as High in Trial.

She was only bred once, and only one puppy remains out of that litter to continue her legacy, her son Luke.

I learned so much from her about working stock - enough to know that we are all just amateurs compared to the awesome power of Aussie instinct!
